I recently had the chance to spend time with an incredible group of chiropractors from across North America. As always, the weekend was packed with wisdom—from world-class speakers, entrepreneurial insights, and lessons on living with greater intention.
But it wasn’t a keynote that struck me the most. It was a simple lunchtime conversation with my accountability partners that tied everything together.
One of my colleagues shared a story about a practice member who had admitted, “That’s what I always wanted… until I grew up and got into the real world.”
My friend’s response was powerful: he hadn’t grown up—he had given up.
That hit me hard.
His dream wasn’t gone. His potential wasn’t gone. He just allowed his environment, stress, and daily grind to drain him into what we call a neutral state—a place where growth isn’t possible.
The Three Energy States
Later that day, we heard from one of my mentors, Dr. Patrick Gentempo, who teaches about the three states of energy. It’s a framework that’s stuck with me ever since:
- Poor Energy – In this state, the body can’t keep up. Cells deteriorate, function declines, and the effects of aging and stress accelerate. Think of it like driving a car designed for 25 MPG but only getting 5.
- Neutral Energy – Here, you’re “getting by.” You’re not getting worse, but you’re not building a better tomorrow either. Cells are replaced at the same level they were before—no stronger, no healthier. You’re stuck at 20 MPG in that 25 MPG car.
- Rich Energy – This is where the magic happens. In this state, you’re reorganizing, repairing, and elevating your health and creativity. Life feels aligned, energy is contagious, and possibilities expand. You’re finally tapping into the full design of your “engine”—and beyond.
Here’s the best part: science shows that a single chiropractic adjustment creates a reorganization in the nervous system that helps move you closer to this rich energy state.
Why This Matters
When you’re surrounded by people and experiences that drain you, life feels heavy. But when you intentionally choose environments, habits, and care that energize you, you begin to live at a higher level—one where growth, creativity, and healing are possible.
So, here’s my encouragement: take a look at your life. Are the people and habits around you fueling rich energy—or pulling you into neutral or poor?
Because the truth is… you don’t have to “grow up” in the way the world defines it. You can stay a kid at heart, full of wonder, possibility, and energy, if you keep your body and mind functioning at their best.
